Investigation by raman spectroscopy of the decomposition process of HKUST-1 upon exposure to air

We report an experimental investigation by Raman spectroscopy of the decomposition process of Metal-Organic Framework (MOF) HKUST-1 upon exposure to air moisture (T=300 K, 70% relative humidity). The data collected here are compared with the indications obtained from a model of the process of decomposition of this material proposed in literature. In agreement with that model, the reported Raman measurements indicate that for exposure times longer than 20 days relevant irreversible processes take place, which are related to the occurrence of the hydrolysis of Cu-O bonds. Interaction of Mo(CO) 6 and its derivative fragments with the Cu(001) surface: Influence on the decomposition process

A theoretical study on the adsorption and decomposition of molybdenum carbonyl on the copper (001) surface is reported. The adsorption structures and energies of Mo(CO)n molecules (n = 1 … 6) are computed systematically using density functional theory with Van der Waals corrections. By analyzing the energies of the various conformations, the main factors that determine the stable adsorption geometry are identified. Insight into the thermodynamics of decomposition is gained by calculating the reaction energy for dissociation of Mo(CO)n into Mo(CO)n−1 and CO. Photoemission study of the reactivity of barium towards SiOx thermal films

Abstract Barium was deposited at room temperature on a thermal silicon oxide layer and the interfacial reaction was monitored by synchrotron induced photoemission (both core level and valence band). The first step of the growth consists of an interfacial reaction which leads to the formation of an interfacial silicate layer. The next step consists in formation of barium oxide while metallic barium occurs subsequently. The deposit can be also homogenized by annealing above 575 K. This results in the formation of several layers of silicate by consumption of silicon oxide. Theoretical Study of the Gas Phase Decomposition of Glycolic, Lactic, and 2-Hydroxyisobutyric Acids

The reaction mechanism associated with the decomposition of three α-hydroxycarboxylic acids (glycolic, lactic, and 2-hydroxyisobutyric) in the gas phase to form carbon monoxide, water, and the corresponding carbonyl compounds has been theoretically characterized by using ab initio analytical gradients at the MP2 level of theory with the 6-31G** and 6-31++G** basis sets. Reprocessed polylactide: Studies of thermo-oxidative decomposition

The combustion process of virgin and reprocessed polylactide (PLA) was simulated by multi-rate linear non-isothermal thermogravimetric experiments under O2. A complete methodology that accounted on the thermal stability and emission of gases was thoroughly developed. A new model, Thermal Decomposition Behavior, and novel parameters, the Zero-Decomposition Temperatures, were used to test the thermal stability of the materials under any linear heating rate. The release of gases was monitored by Evolved Gas Analysis with in-line FT-IR analysis.
